Classification of dredgers

2023-10-18

A dredger is a relatively common construction ship. It is responsible for dredging waterways and river silt so that other ships can pass through smoothly. It is also a sharp tool for blowing sand and reclamation. As the main force behind dredging, they play an important role in shipping, port operations, and construction. Today, let's take you to know about all kinds of dredgers.

1. According to the working principle

According to their working principles, dredgers can be divided into mechanical dredgers and hydraulic dredgers. Mechanical dredgers mainly use various excavating machines to excavate, vertically lift, and horizontally convey underwater sediment to achieve the purpose of dredging; hydraulic dredgers mainly use water movement to complete dredging tasks. It mechanically cuts the underwater soil layer to loosen it, mixes the sediment with water to form a mud-water mixture (mud) of a certain concentration, and then suctions it out with a pump to achieve the purpose of dredging.

2. According to self-propelled ability

Dredgers can be divided into non-self-propelled dredgers and self-propelled dredgers according to their self-propelled capabilities. Non-self-propelled dredging ships are not equipped with main propulsion devices, and the position movement is realized by tugboats. The dredged sediment cannot be lifted by itself and needs to be taken over to blow the shore or transported by mud barges. Non-self-propelled dredgers have poor maneuverability and have a greater impact on the navigation environment during construction; self-propelled dredgers are equipped with main propulsion devices, which can realize self-digging and self-throwing. Generally, they do not need other ships to cooperate with the operation. It usually has ocean-going capabilities, good maneuverability, and less impact on the navigation environment during construction.

3. Classified by operation route

Dredgers can be divided into offshore dredgers and distant sea dredgers according to their operating navigation. Offshore dredgers refer to dredgers that can only operate or sail in offshore or inland waters, and are mainly designed and used for domestic ports and waterways; dredgers in distant seas have passed the inspection of ship inspection, maritime affairs and other departments and issued a certificate of approval. The certificate of the open sea navigation area, the dredger that can carry out construction operations in open seas or across oceans to other countries and regions
